Gap
A gap refers to a jump in share price from previous close to next day open. Usually occurs because of earnings or controversial news being reported during non-trading hours.
Due to after-hours trading, stock values can increase or decrease based on activity. If this is the case, the price the market opens the next day won’t be the same as the prior close price. The difference is considered to be a gap up or gap down based on the individual move.
